OVERDUE APPRECIATION
Edward Duffield created some of the finest clocks made in America in the 18th century. While a small number of articles and book entries have been written about him, no comprehensive and detailed study of his life and work has appeared until now.
Bob Frishman's triple-award-winning (see below) 256-page book - with 227 illustrations - was published in 2024 by the American Philosophical Society, America's oldest learned society. Edward Duffield was an early member of this venerable institution that was founded by his lifelong friend, Benjamin Franklin.
Historic Deerfield's 2025 Winter Lecture Series was focused on early American time and timekeeping. Bob's virtual presentation began the series and may be streamed, thanks to HD's generosity.

The book is featured on the cover of the August 2024 issue of Horological Times. The three-page review states: "highly recommended reading for anyone who is interested in horological or American history — or both!”
"With its first-rate photography and long and useful bibliography, it should be on every library shelf." Lita Solis-Cohen, Maine Antique Digest. Read her complete detailed review here.
